Richard J. “Dick” Peller of Hudson recently was inducted into the Northfield Mount Hermon (Mass.) Athletics Hall of Fame.
Peller is a retired mathematics department chair of the Western Massachusetts boarding school.
The induction ceremony took place earlier this month.
Peller retired from NMH in June 2015 after serving as mathematics faculty, department chair and soccer and baseball coach for more than four decades.
He has a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Hobart and William Smith Colleges (N.Y.) and a master’s from the University of Rochester (N.Y.).
Peller’s coaching legacy nearly rivals his teaching tenure. As boys varsity soccer coach from 1976 to 1991 and in 1996, he led his teams to three New England championship titles.
With Peller at the helm of the varsity baseball program from 1988 to 2005, the team won titles in 1995, 1996 and 1998.
Peller also founded the Hot Stove League, a special night of baseball talk at NMH featuring ESPN baseball reporter Buster Olney, Los Angeles Dodgers director of player personnel Galen Carr and Baltimore Orioles pitcher Ollie Drake.
