The Hudson boys and girls track and field teams competed at the Austintown-Fitch Division I regional competition May 26.
The boys finished 13th out of 42 teams with 18 points. Canton GlenOak won the competition with 58 points and Mentor Lake Catholic (56) and Canton McKinley (47.5) took second and third, respectively.
The girls placed 23rd out of 38 teams with nine points.
Twinsburg won the competition with 60 points and Solon (53) and Nordonia (42) captured second and third, respectively.
On the boys' side, senior Blake Roberts advanced to the state competition with a third-place time of 9 minutes, 16.91 seconds.
The top four athletes in each event and top four relay teams qualified for the state meet, which is scheduled to take place June 2 and 3 at The Ohio State University's Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus. Roberts is set to run the 3,200 June 2 at 6:20 p.m.
The top eight performers and top eight relay teams scored team points.
Junior Dawson Wervey missed qualifying for the state by a little more than a 10th of a second. He finished fifth in 49.77 seconds.
Sophomore Adam Beucler also was painfully close to advancing.
He missed out by slightly more than a half a second. Beucler finished fifth in the 3,200 in 9:17.69.
Robert, Sinko, Beucler and sophomore Lucas Lay led the 3,200 relay team to a seventh-place time of 8:03.58.
Senior Connor Sinko placed seventh in the 1,600 in 4:29.83.
The 1,600 relay team of Lay, Wervey, sophomore Nivash Jayaram and senior Nick Zehnal placed 11th with a time of 3:34.03 in the preliminaries and did not advance to the final.
Senior John Marcinkiewicz ended his career with a 12th-place throw of 44 feet, 7.75 inches in the shot put.
On the girls' side, junior Emily Akin captured fifth in 59.52 seconds.
Senior Macy Lori, who reached the state meet in gymnastics, fell just short of advancing in the pole vault. She had a vault of 11 feet and was four inches short of qualifying.
Junior Brynn Meyer placed eighth in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 2 inches.
The 3,200 relay team of Akin, juniors Grace Turner and Hannah Teed placed ninth in 9:49.2.
The girls 1,600 relay team did not qualify for finals. The team of Akin, junior Ashley Gorze, freshman Leah Hartman and senior Amy Morris finished ninth in 4:07.54.
The 400 relay team of seniors Megan Boyda, Guliana LaMarca and Jenna Reitenbach and junior Abby Petty did not advance to the final. They finished 10th in 51.12 seconds.
Sophomore Taylor Miller settled for 12th place with a leap of 15-4 in the long jump.
