The Hudson boys and girls track and field teams were in 18th place after the first day of a Division I regional competition May 24 at Austintown-Fitch High School.
The Explorers scored two points and the Hudson girls scored one point.
The regional competition is scheduled to resume May 26.
On the boys' side, Dawson Wervey qualified for the finals in the 400-meter race.
The boys team's two points were scored by the 3,200 relay.
That team, which consisted of Blake Roberts, Connor Sinko, Lucas Lay and Adam Beucler, placed seventh in 8 minutes, 3.58 seconds.
The top four athletes in each event and top four relay teams advanced to the state competition, which is scheduled for June 2 and 3 at The Ohio State University's Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus.
The boys 1,600 relay team of Lucas Lay, Nivash Jayaram, Wervey and Nicholas Zehnal finished 11th in 3:34.03 and did not advance.
On the girls' side, Emily Akin qualified for the finals in the 400 with a time of 59.49 seconds.
Brynn Meyer scored the Lady Explorers' lone point. She placed eighth in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 2 inches.
The girls 1,600 relay team of Akin, Ashley Gorze, Leah Hartman and Amy Morris placed ninth in 4:07.54 and did not advance to the final.
The girls 3,200 relay also placed ninth and did not advance. That team of Grace Turner, Hannah Teed, Kalli Barrett and Akin ran a time of 9:49.2.
The 400 relay team of Megan Boyda, Guliana LaMarca, Abby Petty and Jenna Reitenbach did not qualify for finals after finishing 10th in 51.12 seconds.
