Reserve lacrosse boys are runners-up at tourney

The host Western Reserve Academy boys lacrosse team was the runner-up at the Midwest Scholastic Lacrosse Coaches Association Tournament, which concluded May 13.

The Pioneers, who finished 11-7 in 2017, lost to Olentangy 9-7 in the B Bracket championship game.

Andrew Boniface had three goals and Ben Slotnik had a goal and an assist for Reserve.

Also scoring one goal apiece for Reserve were Joseph Jordan, Zach Mandry and Evan Bongers. Brett Erskine added an assist and four ground balls for WRA.

Pioneers' goalie Ben Kishore made 11 saves.

Reserve posted a 10-3 victory over St. Ignatius May 12.

Erskine led the way with three goals and two assists and Boniface had two goals and two assists. Bongers contributed two goals and one assist and Mandry had two goals. Jordan also scored for WRA and Kishore made nine stops.

Erskine was named to the MSLCA All-Midwest first team. Boniface, Slotnik and Dakota Gibbons were named to the second team and Bongers, Taylen Kirkland and Kishore received honorable mention.

Pioneers head coach Audi Glass was named the MSLCA Coach of the Year.
