It was a battle between two teams that are pretty much next-door neighbors.
And the contest between the two talented squad lived up to its billing.
The Hudson girls lacrosse team earned a 13-9 victory over Western Reserve Academy May 8 at Scott Malson Field.
The match was tied 5-5 at halftime and 8-8 with less than 20 minutes left.
Elle Marquez and Corinne Hunt each scored three times and Maddie Valko scored twice for the Lady Explorers (11-2), who had won 10 matches in a row as of press time. Marquez also scooped up five ground balls.
Piper Trattner, Ari Bankovich and Sarah Keller each had one goal and one assist for Hudson.
Elizabeth Hinkle contributed two assists and won 11 draws. Kendall Paltani and Sarah Hinkle each scored once for the Lady Explorers.
Julia Gasbarre had three goals and Chloe Beggs finished with two goals and one assist for Reserve. Abby King scored two goals and Mackenzie Farber had one goal and one assist for WRA (9-5).
Teagan Polak also scored once for the Pioneers.
Hudson goalie Kristin Potts made nine saves and Reserve goalie Brooke Barsella had 12 saves.
The Lady Explorers were scheduled to visit Medina May 11 and Rocky River in their regular-season finale May 13. Results of those contests were not available at press time.
Hudson earned the second seed in the Division I, Region 2 bracket.
Massillon Jackson received the top seed and Cleveland Heights and Uniontown Green got the third and fourth seeds, respectively.
The Lady Explorers are scheduled to host Solon in the opening round of the Region 2 tournament May 16 at Hudson Memorial Stadium. Play is set to begin at 6 p.m.
WRA was scheduled to conclude it season May 13 and 14. The Pioneers were set to host the Midwest Scholastic Lacrosse Coaches Association Tournament. Results of those matches were not available at press time.
