The Hudson boys tennis team earned a 5-0 victory over Western Reserve Academy May 10 on the road.
Nicci Polifrone (7-6, 6-2), David Tullett (7-5, 6-3) and Kevin Si (6-2, 4-6, 6-2) triumphed in singles' play and the Explorers' doubles teams of Rob Tobin and Sam Yurak (6-2, 6-3) and Wendell Wu and Spencer Rodgers (6-1, 6-3) cruised to straight-set wins.
The Explorers finished 12-5 in 2017 and the Pioneers dropped to 10-2.
Both of Hudson's doubles teams were still alive after the first day of the Akron Division I sectional tournament May 9 at Spring Side Racquet Club.
The Explorers' teams of Polifrone and Yurak and Wu and Tobin earned two wins to advance to the quarterfinals, which are scheduled to take place May 11.
Hudson's three singles' players all won their first matches. Unfortunately, all of them lost their second matches and were eliminated from postseason play.
Playing singles for the Explorers were Si, Tullett and Harrshavan Congivaram.
Host Hudson posted a 4-1 victory over Walsh Jesuit May 8.
Tullett (6-1, 6-0) andSi (6-3, 6-4) posted wins at second and third singles, respectively, and the Explorers' doubles teams of Polifrone and Yurak (6-4, 6-2) and Tobin and Wu (6-4, 6-3) also picked up straight-set victories.
Reserve was scheduled to visit Beachwood May 11 before returning home to play Austinburg Grand River Academy May 13. Results of those matches were not available at press time.
WRA is set to conclude its season May 15 at Shaker Heights. Play is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
