The Hudson boys track and field team won its final dual meet of the season recently, dispatching Suburban League National Conference rival Brecksville-Broadview Heights.

The Explorers topped the Bees by the score of 75-53 on the road May 2.

With the victory, Hudson finished the dual meet portion of its schedule with a record of 5-2. The Explorers also finished 5-2 in the National Conference, good enough for third place in the conference standings.

"I was very pleased with how we fared against the league competition," Hudson head coach Mark McConnell said. "Finishing 5-2 and third in the conference was great for our guys."

The Explorers finished first in seven individual events, including four track events. Sophomore Adam Beucler was a double winner in individual events, capturing both the 800-meter race with a time of 2 minutes, 2.3 seconds and the 1,600 with an effort of 4:27.7.

Also winning individual track events for Hudson were juniors Maxwell Doyle in the 100 (11.4) and Jack Good in the 3,200 (9:59).

The Explorers claimed victory in three individual field events.

Accounting for those wins were senior John Marcinkiewicz in the shot put (44 feet, 9.5 inches) and juniors Dawson Wervey in the high jump (5-8) and Greg Mailey in the long jump (18-8.5).

Hudson capped its team victory with a pair of wins in relay events.

The Explorers crossed the finish line first in the 400 relay with a time of 45.5. The members of that squad were Mailey, sophomore Nivash Jayaram, junior Zach Rickey and Doyle.

Hudson also captured first place in the 3,200 relay, posting a winning time of 8:17.1 in the process. Among the members of that unit were junior Eric Halford, senior Connor Sinko, Good and sophomore Lucas Lay.

According to McConnell, the Explorers' performance is all the more impressive considering how relatively young and inexperienced they are.

"We are a young team that lost a lot of strong seniors last year," he said. "I was impressed with how they did against some great teams."

Now that the dual meet portion of the campaign is at an end, McConnell and the Explorers will prepare for the all-important postseason meets.

"The team will be ready for the postseason," McConnell said. "We will be gearing up for getting as many guys as possible to make it to the higher levels of competition."

Hudson was scheduled to compete at the Woodridge Wrap-Up Meet May 6. Results were not available at press time.

The Explorers are set to compete at the Suburban League Meet May 9 and 11 at Nordonia High School's Boliantz Stadium in Macedonia. The competition is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. both days.

"I'm excited to see how we do," McConnell said. "We have faced all of these teams in a dual meet, so we are familiar with their strengths and they know ours, too."
