The Hudson softball team had a 2-1 lead against Newton at the Champions Challenge Invitational April 28 in Loudonville.
The game was suspended in the top of the sixth and will not be completed.
Right-hander Sara Gedeon had 10 strikeouts in five innings of work for the Lady Explorers. She also had a solo home run at the plate.
Marian Duncan had a triple and a run batted in and Cami Madar had a triple for Hudson.
The host Lady Explorers dropped to 6-10 on the season after losing to Cleveland St. Joseph Academy 9-6.
Both teams had 11 hits. St. Joseph had two errors and Hudson had one error.
It was tied at 3-3, but St. Joseph scored twice in the fourth and three times in the fifth to take control.
Duncan, a right-hander, took the loss in the pitcher's circle to fall to 4-3 in 2017. However, she was a force at the plate.
Duncan had three hits, including a two-run homer and two runs scored.
Sadie Mrakuzic and Martha Masich each had three hits, including a double. Mrakuzic scored twice and drove in a run and Masich also drove in a run for the Lady Explorers.
Madar hit a home run for Hudson.
The Lady Explorers were scheduled to visit Suburban League National Conference rival Twinsburg May 1 before returning home to play Wadsworth in a National Conference showdown May 2. Results of those games were not available at press time.
Hudson is set entertain Mogadore Field in a doubleheader May 6. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
The Lady Explorers plan to honor the 2007 Division I state championship team after the first game.
