At one point, it may not have seemed possible.
The Hudson baseball team suffered some tough one-run losses and was behind the eight ball for much of the season when it came to the Suburban League National Conference standings.
And now, just like that, the Explorers are National Conference champions.
Hudson won the National Conference title outright after posting a 5-0 victory over Brecksville-Broadview Heights May 3 on the road.
With the win, the Explorers improved to 16-4 overall. They finished 11-3 in the National Conference.
Heading into its final three conference games, Hudson trailed Nordonia by a half game.
The Explorers went on to win all three games, including an 8-5 win over the Knights April 28, to clinch the title.
That became a reality when Nordonia lost to Wadsworth 3-1 May 2. The Knights rebounded with a 4-2 win over the Grizzlies May 3, but Nordonia had four losses in the conference as of press time.
Against the Bees, Hudson scored one run apiece in the second and third innings and three runs in the fifth to claim the victory.
Right-hander Troy Brown pitched a complete-game five-hit shutout to improve to 4-2 in 2017. He finished with 10 strikeouts and no walks.
Seth Draper had two hits and Nolan Laughlin had a single, a run batted in and a run scored.
Bryce Kilfoyle had a single and two runs scored and Johnny Merrill had a single and an RBI.
The Explorers had seven hits and no errors and the Bees had two errors.
