The opponent didn't have a glittering record.
But when it comes to just about every sport, Hudson knows it can't take that certain opponent for granted on any given day.
That would be the Hathaway Brown Lady Blazers.
Despite their struggles this spring, the Lady Blazers gave everything the Lady Explorers could handle.
Fortunately, a calm, collected senior prevented the Hudson girls lacrosse team from suffering a major upset on its home field.
The Lady Explorers earned their seventh consecutive victory after earning a hard-fought 11-10 win over Hathaway Brown in double overtime May 2 at Hudson Memorial Stadium.
With the win, Hudson improved to 8-2 on the season. The Lady Blazers, who played nothing like their record, dropped to 2-8.
Senior Sarah Keller put the nearly two-hour match away with a free-position goal with 46 seconds left in the second overtime period.
Hathaway Brown was called for a shooting-space penalty and Keller, who also had an assist earlier in the match, calmly fired a low shot into the goal past Lady Blazers' goalie Alexia Jones on a free-position shot.
It was safe to say the Lady Explorers dodged more than their share of bullets.
Hudson did not have the ball in the first overtime as Hathaway Brown had some shots just miss from close range.
Two of those shots hit the pipe and two of those shots were miraculously saved by Lady Explorers' goalie Kristin Potts, who played the entire second half.
Hudson also lost the opening face-off in the second overtime period, but the Lady Explorers were able to get the ball back, thanks to a yellow card on the Lady Blazers.
The story of the match went something like this: Hudson scored a couple of goals, Hathaway Brown rallied, the Lady Explorers went on another run and then the Lady Blazers answered.
Hudson led 6-2 at one point, but Hathaway Brown scored three unanswered goals, including two in a 32-second span, to cut its deficit to 6-5 at halftime.
The Lady Explorers led 8-5 early in the second half, but again, the Lady Blazers responded.
Hathaway Brown tied the game at 10 with 93 seconds left in regulation when Alexis Chauvette found the goal.
The Lady Blazers were pretty much in attack mode the rest of the way until Keller sealed the deal.
Prior to Keller's game-winner, Hudson's most dangerous offensive player was Elizabeth Hinkle, who had five goals on six shots and three takeaways.
Corinne Hunt added two goals and scooped up a game-high five ground balls and Ari Bankovich finished with one goal and two assists.
Tyler Vidmar also scored for the Lady Explorers and Maddie Valko and Kendall Paltani each had an assist.
Potts finished with five saves and Hudson starting goalie Addie Gojdics stopped three shots in the first half.
Chauvette and Ellie Jones each scored three times for Hathaway Brown.
Also scoring one goal apiece for the Lady Blazers were Sydney Radke, Claire McKenna, Bella Godsick and Patty Gannon.
Carly Glickman contributed two assists and Ellie Jones and Godsick each had one assist.
Alexia Jones made seven saves for Hathaway Brown.
