Reserve tennis drops 1st match

The Western Reserve Academy boys tennis team suffered its first loss of the season April 26.

The Pioneers fell to 7-1 in 2017 after losing to Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy 3-2 in Stow.

Kevin Wu scored Reserve's only win in singles' play. He earned a 6-3, 6-3 victory.

WRA's first doubles' team of Kai Cheung and Tom Tang earned a 6-3, 7-5 win.

The Pioneers lost a heartbreaking three-set affair at second doubles.

Host Reserve posted a 5-0 victory over Cleveland Heights April 25.

Cheung (6-3, 6-3), Ilon Goldberg (6-2, 6-3) and Wu (6-1, 6-0) cruised in singles' play and WRA's doubles' teams of Kevin Escott and Will Portnoy (6-1, 6-0) and David Smith and Tang (6-1, 6-2) also had little trouble.

The Pioneers were scheduled to entertain Conneaut April 27 before heading to Beachwood April 29. Results of those matches were not available at press time.

WRA is set to host Kent Roosevelt May 1 before heading to St. John High School May 2 in Ashtabula. The Pioneers are scheduled to entertain Akron Archbishop Hoban May 3. All three matches are set to begin at 4:30 p.m.
