Pioneer track places eighth

The Western Reserve Academy boys track and field team placed eighth with 27.5 points at the 10-team Knight Relays April 8 at Nordonia High School's Boliantz Stadium in Macedonia.

Mentor won the competition with 86 points and Brunswick (82) and Nordonia (81) finished second and third, respectively.

The following Pioneers scored team points:

6,400 meters: Cole Howard, Ian Israelson, Sammy Bluso and Danny Mylott, fifth, 19 minutes, 39.8 seconds

3,200: Ken Fuchino, Andrew Song, Jad Darwiche and Will Downing, eighth, 9:29.19

Distance medley: Sasha Davis, Carlos Alvarez, Chris Sprunt and Zack Bloom, seventh, 12:21.5

Sprint medley: Dan Jang, Joe Wiedemann, Jack Sovich and Israelson, eighth, 1:45.4

1,600: Charlie Kolodziej, Fuchino, Davis and Howard, eighth, 3:51.4

Shot put: Wajdi Ahemed (third overall, 49 feet, .5 inches) and Derrick Hampton, third, 87-2.25

High jump: Israelson and Howard, fifth, 10-6

Long jump: Sovich (fourth, 19-8.5) and Steven Yang, sixth, 37-9.75

Pole vault: Kolodziej and Jack Rubin, seventh, 20 feet

Discus: Ahemed and Hampton, fifth, 233-10

Reserve is scheduled to compete at the Perry Relays April 15 at 9:30 a.m.
