Hudson girls track cruises past North Royalton

The Hudson girls track and field team was back at full strength for its meet against Suburban League National Conference opponent North Royalton April 4 at Hudson Memorial Stadium.

And the Lady Explorers (1-1, 1-1) took full advantage of their expanded numbers, posting a convincing 87-50 victory over the Lady Bears.

Hudson wasn’t just competing against North Royalton, either. The Lady Explorers also were battling gusty and windy weather conditions.

Hudson finished in first place in a number of events. Junior Cameron Bujaucius claimed first in a pair of individual events. She accomplished the feat in the 1,600-meter race with a time of 5 minutes, 51 seconds and the 3,200 with an effort of 12:45.

Four other Lady Explorers captured first place in individual track events.
They were juniors Jenna Reitenbach in the 100 (13.3), Victoria Shriver in the 100 hurdles (17.2), Andrea Giaimo in the 200 (28.2) and Ashley Gorze in the 400 (1:04.47).

In addition, three Hudson athletes placed first in individual track events. Junior Brynn Meyer won the shot put with a heave of 27 feet, 7 inches, while senior Christina Core claimed the discus title with a throw of 82-5.

Not only did freshman Molly Stecker win the high jump, but she also set a personal record in the event with a height of 5-5.

The Lady Explorers finished first in a pair of relay races. The 800 relay (1:53) and the 1,600 (4:26.7). The members of the 800 relay were Giaimo, senior Amy Morris, junior Bryn Strawbridge and freshman Lauren Heidler. The members of the 1,600 relay were Strawbridge, Gorze, senior Sydney Booth and Morris.
