AKRON, Ohio – After a successful summer of camps in 2016, the Akron Zips women's volleyball program is offering another great volleyball experience with camps this summer.
Akron volleyball camps offer a variety of options for different levels of players.
The camps will be held at James A. Rhodes Arena on the campus of the University of Akron.
A serving/ball control camp will be held on June 5 and a setting/attacking camp is set for June 6. These two camps will be run as an individual, three hour session for each skill and attendees will be able to choose which skill camps they attend. These camps are open to girls entering grades 6 – 12 in the fall of 2017.
The next set of camps will take place in July as Zips Volleyball Day Camp will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 10-12. Open to girls entering grades 5 – 9, this day camp focuses on maximizing the improvement of each skill.
Additionally, from 4:30 p.m to 6:30 p.m. on July 10-12, there will be individual skill clinics. These two-hour skill clinics are offered to girls grades 5 – 12 in order to develop and refine specific aspects of their game with drills and competitions.
From July 14-16, Zips volleyball will hold their Advanced Camp. This camp has both an overnight and commuter option, and is open for registration for female athletes in grades 8 – 12, as well as those entering their freshman year of college. The Advanced Camp is targeted to those looking for intensive training and the competitive components of a collegiate culture. This is the only overnight camp option offered by Akron Zips volleyball.
The final camp of the summer takes place on July 24 and 25. The Scholastic Prep Camp is designed as a "rust buster" for athletes getting ready to try out for their school teams for the fall season. Open to female athletes entering grades 7 – 12, this camp will run on both days from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Head coach Tom Hanna enters his third season with the Zips in 2017. A year ago, freshman Elya Karsner (Frankfort, Ky.) was named to the Mid-American Conference All Freshman Team. Akron placed a MAC-high nine student-athletes on the Academic All-MAC team and had three MAC Distinguished Scholar recipients.
Joining Hanna's staff for the camps are assistant coaches Kacie Ehinger and Jordan Armstrong. Ehinger is entering her third campaign at Akron, while Armstrong is set for his second season in 2017.
