Jeff Hildebrand decided to step down as head coach of the Western Reserve Academy football team last month.

Hildebrand guided the Pioneers to a 26-30 record during his six-year tenure, including a 9-1 record in 2016.

"It is with a heavy heart I announce my decision to step down as the head football coach at Western Reserve Academy," he said. "The relationships created and friendships made will be a lasting and meaningful part of my life. Western Reserve Academy is a wonderful place and it has, amazing, compassionate, friendly and talented people.

"I can not fittingly and fully express my appreciation for the administration as it gave me the latitude for the past six years to make changes and create the current culture of its football program, thus allowing it to ultimately become consistently successful.

"The players will forever have my respect and admiration as they willingly made countless sacrifices to myself and their teammates, which enabled the program to achieve historic success. Some of the best human beings I ever met are my players at Western Reserve Academy and they will always keep a special place in my heart and I thank those players.

"I am proud of what we accomplished together. I look forward to observing their true success as the lessons learned and experiences they had will aide them in becoming great husbands and fathers. This has been a great six years, a great ride, and I'm proud of each and every one of these guys for everything that they've done.

"I wish nothing but the best to everyone at WRA."
