The Hudson ice hockey team made a stellar 2017 debut in the Baron Cup I Tournament.
And the Explorers tied a school record in the process.
Third-seeded Hudson improved to 22-5-1 with a 3-2 victory over Grafton Midview in the Baron Cup I quarterfinals Feb. 8 at the John M. Coyne Recreation Center in Brooklyn.
With the win, Hudson, which tied a school record for victories in a season, earned a date with Greater Cleveland High School Red North Division champion Shaker Heights Feb. 11 in Brooklyn. Results were not available at press time.
The championship game is scheduled to take place Feb. 12 in Brooklyn. The puck is set to drop at 5:30 p.m.
Tied at 2, Max Cole scored the game-winning goal off an assist from Miles Harr with 9 minutes, 27 seconds remaining in the match. Cole also had an assist.
Chandler Kotseos had a goal and an assist. Explorers' goaltender Stroud Corr made 30 saves, including 12 in the final 15 minutes. The Middies outshot Hudson 32-25.
Kyle Nagel and Robby Rodgers scored a goal apiece for Midview. Middies' goalie Logan Perkins stopped 22 shots.
