Wrestlers fall in the 2nd round at state tourney

The Hudson wrestling team lost in the second round of the Division I, Region 3-A state team tournament Jan. 25 at Maple Heights High School.

The Explorers earned a 43-33 victory over Bedford in the opening round and lost to Maple 34-32 in the second round.

The following Hudson wrestlers won their matches against the Bearcats:

113 pounds: Nicci Polifrone, pin, 1 minute, 19 seconds

120: Joe Graf, pin, 2:57

138: Ben Jackson, pin, 32 seconds

145: John Sweet, major decision, 13-0

160: Austin Mullen, pin, 4:32

170: Michael Caniglia, pin, 2:38

182: Kyle Minor, 8-2

220: Nathan Slater, pin, 5:27

The following Explorers won against the Mustangs:

113: Polifrone, 6-4 (overtime)

120: Graf, 10-9 (overtime)

160: Mullen, 1-0

182: Chase Gasser, forfeit

195: Minor, technical fall, 17-2

220: Slater, forfeit

285: Slater, forfeit

Hudson was scheduled to host Mayfield Jan. 26 at Ray "Buck" Hyser Gymnasium. Results were not available at press time.

The Explorers are set to compete at the Suburban League Tournament Feb. 4 at Aurora High School. Wrestling is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
