The host Hudson boys basketball team suffered a 44-40 defeat to Suburban League National Conference rival Nordonia Jan. 27 at Ray "Buck" Hyser Gymnasium.
The Knights (2-13, 1-6) led by as many as 13 heading into the fourth quarter, but the Explorers rallied to cut their deficit to one.
Hudson had a chance to take the lead late in the game, but the Explorers could not capitalize.
Ryan Smith made four straight free throws in the last 26 seconds. Nordonia was 9-of-12 from the charity stripe down the stretch.
Spencer McClure led Hudson with a game-high 19 points. Tye Evans finished with 10 points for the Knights.
The Explorers outscored Nordonia 29-9 in the second half en route to a 42-27 win in the junior varsity contest.
Kevin McBride scored all of his team-high 15 points in the second half.
Hudson's freshman team lost 57-52.
