The Western Reserve Academy ice hockey team improved to 1-2 in the Independent School Hockey League after earning an 8-4 victory over Linsly (W. Va.) Jan. 22 at Noble Ice Rink in Wooster.
Danny LaFontaine and Zach Mandry each had three goals and Brett Erskine and Tommy Wagner scored one goal apiece for the Pioneers.
Reserve goaltender Nate Hopkins finished with 34 saves.
Host WRA lost to Greater Cleveland High School Hockey League Red North Division rival Rocky River 4-3 in overtime Jan. 21 at Kent State University Ice Arena.
Tommy Wagner, Danny LaFontaine and Erskine each scored for the Pioneers.
Reserve goaltender Noah Goad finished with 40 saves.
WRA (5-12, 0-7) suffered a 7-5 loss to Red North Division foe Mentor Jan. 20 at the Mentor Civic Arena.
Wagner finished with two goals and Erskine and LaFontaine contributed one goal apiece. Hopkins finished with 45 stops between the pipes.
The Pioneers earned a commanding 9-1 win over Solon Jan. 16 at The Pond Ice Rink in Chagrin Falls. They lost to Columbus St. Charles 7-3 Jan. 16 on the road and Lakewood St. Edward 6-5 Jan. 13 on the road.
Reserve was scheduled to visit Linsly Jan. 24 at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, W. Va. Results were not available at press time.
WRA is set to return to Kent State to play Red North Division foes Hudson Jan. 27 and Shaker Heights Jan. 28. Both games are scheduled to begin at 4:40 p.m.
