Hudson girls soccer rolls past Fitch in regular-season finale

The Hudson girls soccer team concluded its regular season with a convincing 6-1 victory over Austintown-Fitch Oct. 16 at Hudson Memorial Stadium.

With the win, the Lady Explorers head to postseason play with a 9-5-2 record.

Elena Vuksta and Jenna Reitenbach each had two goals and Olivia Adkins and Rayna McLean each scored once. Claire McIsaac and Anna Campanella each had an assist.

"Our defense, led by Molly Charpentier, Cali Stuursma, Meredith Liechty and Malloree Weber and Lily Morgan in goal each played a good game for us," Hudson first-year head coach Chris Gentille said. "It was an overall really good team effort on our part and a good way to head into the playoffs."

Morgan made two saves and the Lady Explorers had a 12-3 advantage in shots on goal and a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.

Hudson received the third seed at the Kent Division I sectional district tournament.

The Lady Explorers earned an opening-round bye. They are scheduled to host the Solon-Bainbridge Township Kenston winner in a sectional title game Oct. 20 at Hudson Memorial Stadium. Play is set to begin at 7 p.m.
