Girls soccer squad cruises past Trinity

The Western Reserve Academy girls soccer team improved to 5-10-1 after posting a 7-3 victory over Trinity Oct. 4 at St. Francis Field in Garfield Heights.

Abby King led the Pioneers with four goals and Chloe Beggs had two goals and two assists.

Alex Randazzo also scored for Reserve. Wema Wachira had two assists and Laina Wilson and Zanna Leciejewski each had one assist for WRA.

Pioneers' goalkeeper Malia Fowler made 11 saves in the nets. Reserve had a 25-16 advantage in shots on goal.

WRA was scheduled to host Shady Side (Pa.) Academy Oct. 8. Results were not available at press time.

The Pioneers are set to visit Hathaway Brown (Shaker Heights) Oct. 11 at Ursuline College in Pepper Pike. Play is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.

Volleyball team wins 5-set thriller

The Western Reserve Academy volleyball team won its fourth straight match.

The host Pioneers earned a thrilling come-from-behind 15-25, 19-25, 25-19, 25-19, 15-8 victory over Cornerstone Christian Academy (Willoughby) Oct. 4.

With the win, Reserve improved to 5-11.

WRA was scheduled to visit Our Lady of the Elms Oct. 6 in Akron. The Pioneers were set to entertain Garfield Heights Oct. 8. Results of those matches were not available at press time.

Reserve is scheduled to conclude its season with a home date against Andrews Osborne (Willoughby) Academy Oct. 11 at 6 p.m.

Field hockey club defeats Laurel

The Western Reserve Academy field hockey team improved to 7-6-1 after posting a 3-1 victory over Laurel (Shaker Heights) Oct. 5 at the Laurel School Butler campus in Russell.

Julia Gasbarre led the Pioneers with a goal and an assist and Brigie Kelly and Julia Clarke each scored once for Reserve. Avery Brewer added an assist for WRA.

The Pioneers were scheduled to host Shady Side (Pa.) Academy Oct. 8. Results were not available at press time.

Reserve is set to entertain Hathaway Brown (Shaker Heights) in its season finale Oct. 10. Play is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
