Pioneer girls soccer

falls to Laurel

The host Western Reserve Academy girls soccer team dropped to 4-9 on the season after losing to Laurel (Shaker Heights) 3-0 Sept. 27.

Laurel had a 24-13 advantage in shots on goal. Pioneers goalkeeper Malia Fowler made 17 saves.

Reserve was scheduled to visit Central Christian Sept. 30 in Kidron and GlenOak Oct. 1 in Canton. Results of those games were not available at press time. WRA is set to visit Trinity Oct. 4 in Garfield Heights. Play is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.

Resident qualifies

for Mideast Regional

Hudson resident Ben Basta, 13, is a member of Team Ohio of Mallard Creek Golf Club in Columbia Station.

Team Ohio recently won the PGA Junior League Golf Mideast Regional at The Inverness Club in Toledo. The team finished 3-0 with 27.5 points.

For the second consecutive year, the team advanced to the PGA Junior League Golf Championship, which is scheduled to take place Nov. 19 to 21 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Races coming

The Monster Mutt Dash at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds, Get Moving Brooklyn at Memorial Park in Brooklyn and Brunswick Pumpking Run at Susan G. Hambley Nature Center. are scheduled to take place Oct. 8.
