Tennis team defeats Orange on the road

The Western Reserve Academy girls tennis team improved to 4-3 on the season after posting a 4-1 victory over Orange Sept. 15 in Pepper Pike.

MacKenzie Deeter (6-4, 6-3), Alicia Ma (6-0, 6-2) and Lydia Peercy (6-0, 6-0) cruised in singles' play.

The Pioneers' first doubles team of Alexis Shoemaker and Amy Zhou earned a 6-4, 6-4 win.

Reserve is scheduled to visit Aurora Sept. 21 before returning home to play Warren JFK Sept. 23. Both matches are set to begin at 4:30 p.m.

Girls cross country squad places 16th

The Western Reserve Academy girls cross country team placed 16th with 448 points in the 27-team Division III race at the Galion Cross Country Festival Sept. 17 at Amann Reservoir and Park.

Centerburg won the competition with 135 points and Galion Northmor (155) and Liberty Center (167) finished second and third, respectively. Lancaster Fairfield Christian Academy's Kyleigh Edwards placed first out of 183 runners with a time of 18 minutes, 25.5 seconds.

Joey Houska led the Pioneers with a 58th-place clocking of 22:21.7. Rounding out the top five for Reserve were Olivia Robinson (65th, 22:28.7), Elizabeth Downing (78th, 22:42.2), Clara Fu (122nd, 24:09.5) and Libby Russ (130th, 24:29.6).

WRA is scheduled to compete in the Sandy Valley Invitational Sept. 24 in Sandy Township. Racing is set to begin at 9:40 a.m.
