WRA field hockey
holds off Stow
The Western Reserve Academy field hockey team improved to 3-2 with a dramatic win.
The Pioneers earned a 1-0 overtime victory over Stow-Munroe Falls Sept. 12 on the road.
Julia Gasbarre scored the lone goal with 2 minutes, 35 seconds remaining in the 10-minute overtime period.
It was Reserve's second consecutive win.
WRA was scheduled to visit Maumee Valley Country Day and Ottawa Hills Sept. 17 in Toledo. Results of those matches were not available at press time.
The Pioneers are set to host Hudson Sept. 21 and Walsh Jesuit Sept. 22. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
Reserve boys soccer
loses on the road
The Western Reserve Academy boys soccer team lost to Central Christian 1-0 Sept. 13 in Kidron.
Taylor Zuniga scored the lone goal for Central Christian (5-0-1).
With the loss, the Pioneers dropped to 4-3-1 on the season.
Reserve goalkeeper Josh Weinberg stopped seven shots in the nets.
Central Christian had an 8-2 advantage in shots on goal and an 8-5 edge in corner kicks.
WRA was scheduled to host Elyria Catholic Sept. 17. Results were not available at press time.
The Pioneers are set to entertain Louisville St. Thomas Aquinas Sept. 22 at 5 p.m.
5K race scheduled
The Superhero 5K race is scheduled to take place Sept. 24 at Sunny Lake Park in Aurora.
