Tennis team falls
to Dublin Jerome
The host Hudson girls tennis team lost to Dublin Jerome 4-1 Sept. 10.
Molly Sandberg picked up the Lady Explorers' lone win (6-2, 6-1) at first singles.
Hudson was scheduled to entertain Suburban League National Conference rival Twinsburg Sept. 12 and Western Reserve Academy Sept. 13. Results of those matches were not available at press time.
The Lady Explorers are set to visit National Conference foe Wadsworth Sept. 14 before returning home to play Westlake in an Ohio Tennis Coaches Association match Sept. 16. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
WRA girls place
13th in Tiffin
The Western Reserve Academy girls cross country team placed 13th with 368 points in the Division II race of the Tiffin Cross Country Carnival Sept. 10.
Ashtabula Edgewood won the competition with 85 points and Cleveland Heights Beaumont (161) and Medina Buckeye (221) finished second and third, respectively.
Beaumont's Ashley Rulison and Addison Ciecierski placed first and second, respectively, with times of 18 minutes, 59.7 seconds and 20:01.5. A total of 258 runners competed.
Joey Houska led the Pioneers with a 33rd-place time of 21:51.1
Rounding out the top five for Reserve were Elizabeth Downing (61st, 22:40.5), Clara Fu (68th, 22:51.7), Olivia Robinson (88th, 23:13.3) and Libby Russ (120th, 24:01.1).
Reserve boys soccer
wins third in a row
It looks like the Western Reserve Academy boys soccer team is hitting its stride.
The host Pioneers earned their third consecutive win after posting a 2-0 victory over Berlin Hiland Sept. 10.
Carlos Alvarez and Ken Fuchino scored and Josh Nagy and Justin Campana each had assists for the Pioneers (4-2-1).
Reserve goalkeeper Josh Weinberg made five saves in the nets. Hiland (2-2-1) had a 9-5 advantage in shots on goal, but WRA had a 7-3 edge in corner kicks.
Russell finds goal
Hudson graduate Maria Russell, a junior on the Ohio University field hockey team, had a goal and an assist during the Bobcats' 2-1 victory over Towson Sept. 11 at Johnny Unitas Stadium in Towson, Md.
Russell also scored during Ohio's 7-4 loss to Rutgers University Sept. 8 at the Bauer Field Hockey Complex in Piscataway, N.J.
