The 2015 state runner-up Hudson field hockey team got its 2016 season off to a strong start.
The Lady Explorers posted a 3-0 victory over Maumee Valley Country Day Aug. 27 in Toledo.
Hannah Yard, Lilly Knox and Grace Hildebrand each scored for Hudson. Maddie Valko, Sofi Hess and Sarah Keller each had an assist.
The Explorers scored on three of their six penalty-corner opportunities.
"We came out strong and ready to capitalize on all of our opportunities," Hudson head coach Laurie Wilkins said.
"I was proud of our girls and the way they played as a unit. We were able to play all 21 field players."
The Lady Explorers' match with Ottawa Hills Aug. 27 in Toledo was stopped after eight minutes of play due to inclement weather.
Hudson had a 1-0 lead with 22:06 remaining in the first half. Hess scored off a penalty corner. Keller was credited with the assist.
The match is expected to be completed at a later date.
The Lady Explorers were scheduled to visit Hawken Aug. 30 in Gates Mills. Results were not available at press time.
Hudson is set to host North Allegheny (Pa.) Sept. 3 at Hudson Memorial Stadium. Play is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m.
