Boys soccer team

improves to 5-0

The Western Reserve Academy boys soccer team improved to 5-0 in 2014 after earning a 1-0 victory over St. Vincent-St. Mary Aug. 30 in Akron.

Ryan Hassell scored the lone goal in the first half off an assist from Matt Waldeck.

Pioneers goalkeeper Gabriel Skora made six saves to preserve the shutout.

SVSM had an 8-6 advantage in shots on goal and both teams had four corner kicks.

Reserve was scheduled to host Akron Archbishop Hoban Sept. 2. Results were not available at press time.

WRA is set to entertain Temple Christian of Mansfield Sept. 5 at 5 p.m. before heading to Kidron to play Central Christian Sept. 6 at 7 p.m.

Laurel gets past tennis team

The host Western Reserve Academy girls tennis team dropped to 3-2 on the season after losing a 3-2 decision to Shaker Heights Laurel Aug. 28.

Mackenzie Deeter won a 6-1, 7-5 decision at second singles and Alicia Ma earned a 6-2, 6-1 win at third singles for the Pioneers.

Reserve is scheduled to entertain Westlake Sept. 4 at 4:30 p.m.

WRA is set to host the WRA Doubles Tournament Sept. 6 at 9 a.m.

Also featured at the tournament will be Chagrin Falls, Gates Mills Hawken, Chagrin Falls Kenston, Laurel and Shaker Heights.
