They may not have had the weapons they had last year, but once again, the Lady Explorers proved they belonged among the state's elite.

The Hudson girls volleyball team placed fourth at the Best of Ohio Tournament Aug. 30 at Toledo St. Ursula Academy.

The Lady Explorers finished 1-2 at the tournament.

Hudson's lone win was a 25-11, 25-17 victory over Columbus Bishop Watterson.

Allison Rense had five kills and Madison Przybocki finished with eight service points for Hudson.

Also contributing for the Lady Explorers were Amanda Przybocki (14 assists), Gina Holland (11 digs) and Jordan Mackay (three blocks).

Hudson lost a 25-14, 25-13 decision to reigning Division I state champion Cincinnati Mount Notre Dame, which defeated the Lady Explorers (3-3) in four sets in the 2013 Division I state semifinals.

Mackay had eight digs and five kills and Holland finished with six service points.

Rense contributed two blocks and Amanda Przybocki had 15 assists.

Hudson also lost a 25-20, 18-25, 25-22 decision to Columbus St. Francis Desales.

Mackay finished with 13 kills and Holland had 12 service points. Rense added five blocks and Sarah Young contributed 15 digs.

Alyssa Disandis had 27 assists for the Lady Explorers.

"It was great competition all day long," Hudson head coach Jessica Ciborek said. "It's great to play these teams early in the season so we get an idea of where we are at.

"We definitely have a lot of work to do and realized we need to play with a whole lot more intensity and drive if we are going to be successful.

"We came back strong against St Francis Desales in the second set and then our serve reception and communication dropped in the beginning of the third set, leading to us pushing from behind the remainder of the match."

The Lady Explorers were scheduled to visit Northeast Ohio Conference rival North Royalton Sept. 2. Results were not available at press time.

They are set to entertain NOC Lake Division foe Mayfield Sept. 4 at Buck Hyser Gymnasium. Play is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.

Hudson is set to host a quad that is expected to feature Massillon Jackson, Cortland Lakeview and Solon Sept. 6. Play is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
