Tennis team wins

first two matches

The host Western Reserve Academy girls tennis team earned a 4-1 victory over Cleveland Heights Beaumont Aug. 19.

With the win, the Pioneers improved to 2-0.

Sydney King (6-0, 6-0), Mackenzie Deeter (6-0, 6-0) and Alicia Ma (6-1, 6-0) triumphed in singles' play.

Elizabeth Wood and Sophie Shen earned a hard-fought 5-7, 7-5, 7-6 win at second doubles for Reserve, which posted a 3-2 victory over Gates Mills Hawken in its season debut Aug. 15 at home.

WRA was scheduled to visit Walsh Jesuit Aug. 21. Results were not available at press time.

The Pioneers are set to host Hudson Aug. 26 and Shaker Heights Laurel Aug. 28. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.

Golfers get past Cuyahoga Heights

The Western Reserve Academy golf team earned a 347-377 victory over Cuyahoga Heights Aug. 15 at Astorhurst Golf Course in Walton Hills.

Joseph Wang earned medalist honors for the Pioneers with an 82.

Rounding out the top four for Reserve were Michael Pamer (87), Kevin Escott (88) and Otto Bohan (90).

WRA was scheduled to play Padua Franciscan Aug. 21 at Pleasant Valley Golf Course in Medina. Results were not available at press time.

The Pioneers are scheduled to host Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy Aug. 26 at 4 p.m.
