Staff report

The Hudson boys golf team finished fourth with a score of 310 at the 18-team Walker Jones Classic Aug. 13 at Shale Creek Golf Club in Medina.

Toledo St. John's Jesuit won with a 306 and Cincinnati St. Xavier (307) and St. Ignatius (310) finished second and third, respectively. St. Ignatius edged out the Explorers on the fifth-man tiebreaker rule.

"It was a really good team effort against a good field," Hudson first-year head coach Dave Kurtz said.

Will Kurtz led the Explorers with a 75, which was good for 11th place out of 108 players.

Nolan Laughlin was next with a 77 and Johnny Merrill shot a 78.

"Those scores were varsity bests for Nolan and Johnny," Kurtz said.

Rounding out the top four for the Explorers was Dave Sexton with an 80.

Hudson's junior varsity team placed third at the nine-team North Royalton JV Tournament Aug. 11 in Hinckley Hills.

The varsity squad is scheduled to host Northeast Ohio Conference Valley Division rival Medina Aug. 21 at the Country Club of Hudson.

Play is set to begin at 3:30 p.m.
