Hudson senior Ross Palazzo competed in the 2014 Speedo Junior National Championships, which concluded Aug. 3 at the William Woollett Aquatics Complex in Irvine, Calif.
Palazzo swam in four events and finished in the top 10 in the nation in three of those events.
The Junior Nationals are the championship meet for the top swimmers, ages 18 years and younger, in the USA.
Palazzo's best finish was the 200-meter breaststroke. He finished fourth with a time of 2 minutes, 17.63 seconds and had the fastest time in that event after swimming a time of 2:16 in the preliminaries.
Palazzo finished eighth in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:03.67 and 10th (2:04.52) in the 200 individual medley.
The meet featured more than 1,000 athletes from across the country.
Palazzo is scheduled to compete in the 2014 Phillips 66 National Championships Aug. 6 through 10 at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Complex.
This competition draws the best swimmers in the country.
Olympic gold medalists Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte and other USA Olympians are expected to be there to compete for spots on the USA National Team.
This also is the selection meet for the USA's 2014 Jr. National Pan Pacific team, which is scheduled to compete later in the month in Hawaii.
Palazzo plans to swim five events at the 2014 Phillips 66 National Championships.
