The Hudson girls lacrosse team's season came to an end in a North/Central Region Division I semifinal contest May 19 on the road.
The Lady Explorers finished 9-8 in 2014 after losing an 18-10 decision to Olentangy.
Hudson reached the semifinals after posting a 12-3 win over North Canton Hoover May 15 at Hudson Memorial Stadium.
"The girls came off of a nice win against North Canton Hoover where everything went their way," Hudson head coach Joya Mitchell said.
"We got an excellent scouting report on Olentangy and spent the rest of the week focusing on what we needed to do to shut down a few of their key players."
Unfortunately, that didn't happen.
"We ran our typical zone defense but Olentangy did a great job of breaking our zone," Mitchell said.
Senior Maria Russell led the waywith six goals.
Jackie Kisthardt scored three goals for the Lady Explorers. Julia Finkenthal had the other goal for Hudson.
Senior Kiley Merrill had two assists and senior goalkeeper made 15 saves for the Lady Explorers, who dealt with injuries to key players in recent weeks.
"Some of our key players, Maria Russell, Ally Prosser and Kayla Miller, practiced minimally due to injury and or school-related events," Mitchell said.
The Braves took control right away. Hudson battled back before Olentangy regained the momentum early in the second half.
"Olentangy went up by a few goals right away," Mitchell said. "We battled back and started scoring some goals toward the end of the first half and I thought the momentum would continue to swing our way through halftime.
"Unfortunately, we started off slow again and really couldn't recover. We struggled with the draw and just could not posses the ball."
Russell, Merrill, Price and seniors Kayla Miller, Abby Nelson and Olivia Wamelink concluded their high school careers.
"All of them did well in their last game," Mitchell said. "Maria had a fantastic game."
