Six Hudson athletes advance to regional track meet

The Hudson boys and girls track and field teams competed at a Division I district meet, which concluded May 23 at Nordonia High School in Macedonia.

The boys finished seventh with 44 points. Nordonia won the 14-team competition with 44 points and Wadsworth (96) and Twinsburg (82) finished second and third, respectively.

The girls finished 10th with 36 points. Brecksville-Broadview Heights won the 14-team competition with 90.5 points and Stow-Munroe Falls (87) and Nordonia (74.5) took second and third, respectively.

Kyle Mau dominated the field in the 1,600-meter race. He won witth a time of 9 minute, 7.14 seconds, which was more than 28 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.

As a result, Mau advanced to the regional meet, which is scheduled to take place May 28 and 30 at Fitch High School in Austintown. The competition is set to begin at 5 p.m. both days.

The top four individuals in each event and the top four relay teams advanced.

Also qualifying for the boys was Gavin Gaynor, who placed second in the 1,600 (4:21.66).

David Lizanich qualifed for the regional meet in the shot put with a third-place throw of 47 feet, 1.75 inches.

On the girls' side, Lauren Gorze advanced to the regional meet after placing third with a time of 46.85 seconds in the 300 hurdles.

Jordan Miller punched her ticket to the regional competition with a fourth-place vault of 9-9 in the pole vault.

Also qualifying for the regional meet was Shilah Kidd, who finished fourth in the discus (104-11).

Boys

• 3,200: Blake Roberts, seventh, 9:56.9

Girls

• 400: Natalie Barnett, fifth, 1:00.07

• 1,600: Gaby Palazzo, fifth, 5:18.43

• 3,200: Sarah Wolanske, seventh, 11:52.95

• 400 relay: Brooke Royster, Kara Holley, Cara Sobzak and Natalle Schwarz, 13th, 53.79

• 800 relay: Royster, Lauren Westerbeck, Ali Baylor and Barnett, 11th, 1:49.59

• 3,200 relay: Arielle Dalea, Victoria Breeden, Wolanske and Palazzo, eighth, 9:49.12

• Pole vault: Macy Lori, fifth, 9-6
