The Hudson boys volleyball team's stellar season came to an end May 15.
Brecksville-Broadview Heights earned a 22-25, 31-29 25-23, 25-22 victory over the Explorers in a Division I sectional match at Buck Hyser Gymnasium.
It was the Explorers' fourth consecutive loss.
Senior Sam Kline led Hudson with 29 kills, 12 assists and four solo blocks. Senior Reggie Musnuff added 18 kills and four blocks and senior setter Zeyd Ozgur finished with 39 assists.
"It was a tough, tightly contested, 100-plus minute match," Explorers head coach Larry Meehabn said. "I felt good about our play after winning the first set, but the emotional tide really turned after we lost the extended 31-29 second set.
"I give Brecksville a great deal of credit as they used the momentum of the second set to propel them to eventual victory. We battled the whole way. Our big hitters continued to produce as they have all season, but we just could not create enough overall production."
Hudson finished 13-5, which is its best record since it became a team nine years ago.
"This was made all the more significant as we played a number of inexperienced underclassmen in reaction to key injuries," Meehan said. "I am very proud of the young men in both their effort and development.
"Though I would have been thrilled to extend our playoff run, I am very pleased with the substance of our season. I thoroughly enjoyed working with this group of seniors and wish the well as they head off to college and beyond."
Other seniors included Taylor Vigliotti, Nick Stenger, Ben Blechman and Derek Schwarz.
