Quartet fares well at

state gymnastics meet

Four gymnasts from Hudson traveled to their state meets March 21 to 23 and April 4-6.

Miranda Basta, Abby Bell, Makayla Hudy and Anna Engelman had stellar showings at their meets while also representing their training center, Flytz Gymnastics in Cuyahoga Falls.

Basta and Bell competed in Niles at the Xcel Platinum State Meet. Basta placed third on the balance beam with a score of 9.225 and took the all-around state title with a score of 36.7.

Bell scored a 9.275 on the floor exercise, which was good for second in the state.

Hudy and Engelman, who are Level 7 gymnasts, competed at their state meet in Maumee. Both of these gymnasts earned individual state titles.

Hudy placed second on vault with a score of 9.5 and first on floor with a 9.525. Engelman won the state title on the balance beam with a score of 9.1 and placed second in the all-around (35.45).

"Makayla and Anna worked so hard all season and completely deserve these state titles," Flytz gymnastics coach Shanon Smith said. "Winning an event at the state meet as an optional gymnast is a huge accomplishment."

All four gymnasts from Hudson have trained at Flytz Gymnastics for several years. They competed in Niagara Falls, Erie (Pa.) and Chicago.
