The Hudson softball team fell to 8-13 overall and 3-5 in the Northeast Ohio Conference River Division after losing an 8-6 decision to Stow-Munroe Falls May 13 on the road.
Seven of the Lady Bulldogs' runs were unearned. Right-hander Sara Gedeon took the loss in the circle for the Lady Explorers.
Stow (18-5, 8-0) built a 5-1 lead after three innings.
The Lady Bulldogs got their first run in the first on a throwing error. Hudson tied the game in the top of the second on a ground out by leadoff batter Maddie Sullivan.
The Lady Bulldogs answered with three runs in the bottom of the second and one in the third.
Sara Schmidt had a two-run single in the second and Kayla Esterle made it 5-1 when she smacked a two-out, run-scoring double off the fence in left field in the third.
Hudson, which had trouble with Stow right-hander Sadie Jones' off-speed pitches early in the game, cut its deficit to 5-3 in the fifth.
After singles by Sullivan and Sydney Coleman, Eden Janesch drove in the first run on a ground out and Gedeon made it 5-3 when she smacked a single to center.
The Lady Bulldogs added two more runs in the fifth on a couple of errors in the sixth, but the Lady Explorers cut it to 7-5 in the top of the sixth.
Hudson scored one of its runs on an error and also got a run-scoring single from Coleman.
Stow got a crucial insurance run in the bottom of the sixth when Landy Slider made it 8-5 with a run-scoring single in the seventh.
The Lady Bulldogs appeared to be in business when they turned a double play in the seventh.
But Lexi Dorr followed with a single and Nikki Turner drove her home wth a run-scoring double.
The Lady Explorers got no closer.
Jones got the final batter to hit a pop fly to end the game.
