Hudson baseball wins pitcher's duel with Cuyahoga Falls

Hudson baseball had to work hard in its final Northeast Ohio Conference Valley Division game, but the Explorers got the job done.

Senior pitcher Nanak Saran pitched a two-hit shutout to lead Hudson to a 1-0 win over Cuyahoga Falls May 7 at The Ballpark at Hudson.

Hudson improved to 19-3 overall and finished 9-1 in the Valley Division to win its third straight division title.

Saran (6-0) had to be sharp, as Falls starter Ben Nelson (0-5) was on his game as well. Nelson limited the Explorers to one earned run on five hits with two walks and two strikeouts in a complete-game effort.

Saran struck out three batters and did not issue any walks.

The game's lone run came in the bottom of the first inning. Braden Wright led off with a double, went to third on a ground out and came home on a sacrifice fly by Joey Cahill.

A single in the fourth inning by Ryan Horrigan and a single in the sixth inning by Tyler Adams accounted for all of Falls' hits.

Hudson will host Shaker Heights May 9 at 4:30 p.m. at The Ballpark at Hudson.
