Girls lacrosse team
rolls past Laurel
The host Western Reserve Academy girls lacrosse team improved to 6-4 after posting a 14-7 victory over Shaker Heights Laurel April 30.
McKenna Polak led the Pioneers with seven goals and Maggie Wise finished with four goals.
Cristen Barnett added one goal and two assists and Julia Gasbarre and Maria Paparella each had one goal.
Reserve goalkeeper Ashleigh Groves made five saves.
WRA lost a 9-8 decision to Cleveland Heights April 28.
Polak had three goals and Gasbarre added two goals for the Pioneers.
Zoe Leciejewski, Wise and Hannah McKenzie each scored once for Reserve.
Groves made seven saves. The Pioneers earned a convincing 10-4 win in the junior varsity contest.
Reserve was scheduled to visit Toledo St. Ursula Academy and Ottawa Hills May 3. Results of those games were not available at press time.
WRA is set to host Massillon Jackson May 5 at 5 p.m. before heading to Chagrin Falls May 7 at 6:15 p.m.
Trio leads CVCA
The Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy track and field teams competed at the 27-team Poland Invitational April 26 at Poland Seminary High School.
The boys finished second with 75 points and the girls placed fourth with 40 points.
Hudson resident Ryan Adams won the 800-meter race with a time of 1 minute, 58.63 seconds and Ben Bockoven of Hudson took fifth in the 1,600 (4:41.49). Adams and Bockoven also were part of the winning 3,200 relay (8:16.85).
On the girls' side, Hudson resident Sammy Bockoven won the 800 (2:23.02) and 1,600 (5:09.49) races and was a member of the third-place 1,600 relay team (4:26.15).
