The Hudson baseball team settled for a split on the first day of the Cancer Classic May 2 at The Ballpark at Hudson.
The Explorers earned a 5-1 victory over Solon in the first game and then lost a 1-0 decision to Mentor in the second game.
In the win against the Comets, Hudson (15-2) scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning to take the lead for good (4-1).
The Explorers finished with six hits and one error and Solon had one hits and two errors.
Nanak Saran got the win on the mound to improve to 5-0.
Joey Cahill led Hudson's offense with two doubles, two runs batted in, a run scored and a stolen base.
In the loss to the Cardinals, the Explorers could not solve Evan Lovick, who threw no-hitter. Hudson's Ian Swan scattered four hits in seven innings of work, but Mentor's one run in the top of the fourth proved to be the difference.
