The Hudson softball team finished 1-2 at the Prebis Memorial Tournament, which concluded April 26 at Wellington Community Park.
The Lady Explorers earned an 18-1 victory over Lorain Clearview and lost to Cleveland St. Joseph (4-3) and Westlake (5-4).
The Clearview game was called after five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule. Hudson right-hander Shayna Smith got the win in the circle. She allowed three hits in five innings of work.
Erika Howard had four hits, including a double, two runs scored and a run batted in. Sara Gedeon added a home run and a double, four RBIs and three runs scored.
Sara Gedeon pitched two scoreless innings before being relieved by Nikki Turner in the third. Gedeon returned to the circle later in the game.
St. Joseph scored three of its runs on a passed ball, a bases-loaded walk and an error.
With the game tied at three in the top of the sixth, the Lady Explorers did not score despite having runners on second and third base with one out.
Hudson (3-11) also didn't score in the seventh despite having a runner on third.
Gedeon also took the loss against Westlake.
Trailing 5-2, the Lady Explorers scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Unfortunately, Hudson didn't score again despite having runners on first and second in the seventh.
Howard had two singles and a run scored and Eden Janesch had two hits, including a triple, and a run scored.
"It was a very well-played game by both teams," Lady Explorers head coach Don Sewell said.
Despite the two heartbreaking losses, Sewell was pleased with his team's play.
"All in all, the girls played very well," he said. "We saw very good talent from all the teams. As a team, we committed only one fielding errors. The girls fought in every inning we played.
"I think the girls are getting very close to being the team I know they can be. We just need to be better at plate adjustments with runners on."
Hudson was scheduled to visit Northeast Ohio Conference River Division rival Stow-Munroe Falls April 29. Results of those games were not available at press time.
The Lady Explorers are set to host North Olmsted in a doubleheader May 3. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
