Westlake defeats

Hudson tennis team

The host Hudson boys tennis team opened the season with a 3-2 loss to Westlake April 2.

Dominic Polifrone earned a 6-0, 6-1 victory at first singles and the first doubles team of Ari Basu and Jack Graham earned a 7-6, 6-0 win.

The Explorers were scheduled to play Cincinnati Sycamore April 4 at Springside Racquet Club in Akron before heading to compete in the Lakewood St. Edward Invitational April 5. Results of those games were not available at press time.

Hudson is set to visit Northeast Ohio Conference rival Strongsville April 7 before returning home to play Pepper Pike Orange April 8.

Both matches are scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.

WRA baseball falls

The Western Reserve Academy baseball team opened the season with a 3-0 loss to Bay April 2 in Bay Village.

Junior Joey Mylott took the loss on the mound despite finishing with eight strikeouts in five-plus innings of work.

The Pioneers finished with just three hits. Mylott, senior Jack McKenzie and sophomore Sam LaFontaine each had a hit for Reserve.

Neither team committed an error.

Lacrosse club loses

The host Western Reserve Academy boys lacrosse team lost a 14-6 decision to Detroit Country Day in its season debut April 2.
