The Hudson boys lacrosse team made an inauspicious debut March 24 in Powell.
The Explorers lost a commanding 9-2 decision to Olentangy Liberty.
The Patriots (1-0) had a 4-0 lead and a 13-1 shots-on-goal advantage after one quarter of play. Hudson (0-1) committed nine turnovers in the quarter.
After Olentangy Liberty took a 7-1 lead at halftime, the Explorers made some changes on defense and held the Patriots in check in the second half.
But Hudson's offense never got on track.
Brent Zubal and Bo Lori each scored for the Explorers. Hudson goalkeepers Evan Carlson and Jake Krone made five and three saves, respectively. Seth Wagner led the Explorers with four ground balls.
The Patriots outshot Hudson 31-23 and had a 38-29 advantage in ground balls. The Explorers did not convert on any of its six extra-man opportunities.
Hudson is scheduled to visit Cleveland St. Ignatius April 2 at 7 p.m. The Wildcats ended the Explorers' 2013 season with an 11-10 victory in a regional final contest.
