Ray Hyser Award

Hudson senior guard Jackie Ulmer received the Ray Hyser Award for sportsmanship during the Hudson girls basketball team's awards banquet recently.

Porter set to defend world title

"Showtime" Shawn Porter has set the date for his world first title defense.

The 2006 Stow-Munroe Falls High School graduate is scheduled to defend his International Boxing Federation World Welterweight title April 19 at the DC Amory in Washington, D.C.

His opponent will be former light welterweight and welterweight world champion Paulie Malignaggi.

The fight will be on the undercard of the light heavyweight title bout between Bernard Hopkins and Beibut Shumenov, which will be broadcast on Showtime.

Hudson Drillers need players

The Hudson Drillers Baseball Club is looking to add age 8-and-younger and 9-and-younger players to a tournament baseball team for the summer.

Practices will be indoors until April and games and tournaments will be in the local area for much of the season.

Prior baseball experience is not required.

Try out for Summit County Buzzsaws

The Summit County Buzzsaws 15-and-younger baseball team is hosting tryouts for several roster spots.

The Buzzsaws are a Christian-based competitive travel baseball program designed for player development into high school varsity and college level players.

Players should be freshmen and must be planning to try out for their high school teams. Tryouts are scheduled to take place at Kent State University's Field House.
