The Western Reserve Academy boys basketball team continued its upward climb under coach Josh Humphrey.
The Pioneers nearly doubled their win total from last season to finish 13-6.
WRA closed out the year on a winning note with victories against Canton Central Catholic and Cleveland Collinwood.
Junior Peter Barba repeated as the team's Most Valuable Player after leading the Pioneers in rebounds and scoring, averaging 18 points per game.
Barba scored in double figures in all but two games, had more than 20 points seven times and is a player the team will rely on next season to improve upon his "open, free-flowing type of basketball," Humphrey said.
Junior John Roberts finished second in scoring at 11 points per game.
The Pioneers will graduate four players in Grant MacPherson, Justin Cook, Sheng Chan and Jabril Smith, who played an important leadership role throughout the season to earn the Coaches/Spirit Award. Smith also had a high school career-high 13 points in a win against Mansfield Temple Christian.
Next season's team will include 10 rising seniors, including Most Improved Player recipient Joey Mylott, who scored in double figures in five games this season. The team also will rely on juniors Matt Fleischmann, Charles Coffman and Patrick Mylott and sophomore Vince Brookins, leaving Humphrey with high expectations for a "hard-working group that plays unselfishly and with confidence."
