Stow graduate set to defend world title
"Showtime" Shawn Porter has set the date for his world first title defense.
The 2006 Stow-Munroe Falls High School graduate is scheduled to defend his International Boxing Federation World Welterweight title April 19 at the DC Amory in Washington, D.C. His opponent will be former light welterweight and welterweight world champion Paulie Malignaggi.
Malignaggi (33-5, 7 knockouts) is coming off a unanimous decision win over Zab Judah Dec. 7.
It was the main event of the same card which saw Porter (23-0-1, 14 knockouts) defeat Devon Alexander for the world title.
The fight will be on the undercard of the light heavyweight title bout between Bernard Hopkins and Beibut Shumenov, which will be broadcast on Showtime.
Walsh earns award
