The Hudson ice hockey team fell to 14-12-3 overall and 6-4 in the Red North Division after losing a 3-2 decision to Rocky River Feb. 1 on the road.

Mikey Gaffney had a goal and an assist and Anthony Giaimo scored once for the Explorers.

Matt Murphy added an assist for Hudson.

Explorers' goaltender Austin Ganley finished with 20 saves.

"It was a good game," Hudson head coach Bobby Lyle said. "I thought we played well. We had a lot of scoring opportunities. We just made a few costly mistakes."

The Explorers earned a 4-0 win over Red North foe Mentor Jan. 31 on the road.

Max Cole had two goals and Bo Lori and Zach Thibault each scored once for the Explorers. Lori and Thibault also had two assists apiece and Murphy and Brent Zubal each had one assist. Ganley finished with 16 saves.

"We came out a little slow, but we did enough to get the job done," Lyle said. "We've been tough defensively all year and Austin Ganley is starting to pick it up in the goal."

Hudson qualified for the Baron Cup I Tournament for the second consecutive year. The Explorers got the third seed in the tournament.

Rocky River got the top seed and Shaker Heights received the second seed.

Hudson is scheduled to play sixth-seeded Chagrin Falls Kenston Feb. 6 in Brooklyn. Game time is set for 8:30 p.m.

"The kids are pretty excited about it," Lyle said. "We're playing good hockey and we just hope it stays that way."
