Boys hoops team

improves to 7-1

The Western Reserve Academy boys basketball team improved to 7-1 overall after earning a commanding 72-43 victory over St. Martin de Porres Jan. 11 in Cleveland.

Patrick Mylott finished with a career-high 14 points for the Pioneers. He also had seven assists and three steals.

Peter Barba scored 13 of his team-high 17 points in the third quarter for Reserve. He added eight rebounds, eight assists and four steals.

Vince Brookins also had 13 points for WRA.

The Pioneers posted a 62-53 win over Lake Center Christian Jan. 10 in Hartville.

Reserve had a 47-34 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Barba led WRA with 27 points, seven rebounds, five assists, four steals and one blocked shot.

Matt Fleischmann and Brookins added 10 and nine points, respectively, for the Pioneers.

Charlie Coffman also had a strong game for WRA with seven points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals.

The Pioneers were scheduled to visit Trinity Jan. 14 in Garfield Heights. Results were not available at press time.

Reserve is set to visit Coventry Jan. 18 in Akron. Varsity tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Lady Pioneers fall

The Western Reserve Academy girls basketball team lost a 40-35 decision to Central Christian School Jan. 11 in Kidron.

The Lady Pioneers also suffered a 51-20 loss to Laurel Jan. 9 in Shaker Heights.

Reserve (1-8) is scheduled to visit Hawken Jan. 15 in Gates Mills. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m.

WRA is set to host Louisville St. Thomas Aquinas Jan. 16 at 7:30 p.m. and Cleveland John Adams Jan. 18 at 2:30 p.m.
