It lasted more than month.
Unfortunately for the Western Reserve Academy ice hockey team, it finally came to an end.
The Pioneers lost a 7-2 decision to Kiski (Pa.) Jan. 12 at Kent State University Ice Arena. The loss ended a nine-game winning streak for Reserve, which dropped to 14-4 on the season.
It was WRA's first setback since Dec. 8 when it suffered a 6-5 loss to Grafton Midview.
Kiski took a 2-0 lead, but Davis Johnson got the Pioneers on the board with a power-play goal late in the first period.
Kiski took a 3-1 advantage early in the second period, but Reserve countered when Sam LaFontaine scored on a breakaway.
Kiski made it 4-2 with less than a minute left in the period after a penalty by WRA. Both teams combined for 34 minutes in penalties and Kiski put the contest away with three power-play goals in the final period.
Pioneers' goaltender Christian Ciraco made 35 saves in the loss.
Reserve scored an 8-4 win over Lakewood Jan. 11 at Serpentini Arena at Whitehurst in Lakewood.
Robert Markwell and LaFontaine each scored four times for WRA. The Pioneers built a 3-1 lead before Lakewood rallied for three unanswered goals.
But Reserve stormed back with three goals late in the second period to take a 6-4 lead into the final 15 minutes. WRA never looked back.
Ciraco made 32 stops in the nets.
The Pioneers are scheduled to play Linsly Jan. 22 at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling W. Va. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
