WRA hockey team

routs Elyria Catholic

The Western Reserve Academy ice hockey team won its seventh consecutive game after posting a commanding 8-0 victory over Elyria Catholic Jan. 8 at North Park Ice Rink in Elyria.

Robbie Markwell led the Pioneers (13-3) with five goals and Sam LaFontaine added one goal and two assists.

Also finding the nets once apiece for Reserve were Austin Rand and Matt Waldeck.

Otto Bohan contributed two assists and was on the ice for all eight goals. WRA goaltender Christian Ciraco made 14 saves in the nets.

The Pioneers were scheduled to play Lakewood Jan. 11 on the road before returning home to Kent State University Ice Arena to play Kiski (Pa.) Jan. 12 at noon.

Reserve is set to visit Nordonia Jan. 19 at Gilmour Academy in Gates Mills. Play is scheduled to begin at 7:10 p.m.

Duo qualifies for

National Finals

Hudson residents Tom Russ and Keith Smith recently qualified for the National Finals of the National Kidney Foundation Cadillac Golf Classic, which is scheduled to take place Jan. 17 to 19 at the Pebble Beach Resorts in Del Monte Forest, Calif.

Russ and Smith are expected to join Kent Hageman of Elyria and Gerry Stadler of Cuyahoga Falls in the 54-hole tournament, which is expected to include more than 50 teams.

They qualified for this event after their top finish at the NKF's Cadillac Golf Classic Tournament in June.

5K scheduled

The Hermes Garage Sale 5K is scheduled to take place Jan. 18 at Edgewater Park in Cleveland.

The race is set to begin at 9 a.m.
