WRA ice hockey

squad rolls to win

The Western Reserve Academy ice hockey team earned a 9-1 victory over Elyria Catholic Dec. 18 at North Park Rink in Elyria.

Robbie Markwell led the Pioneers with four goals and Sam LaFontaine added two goals. Also scoring one goal apiece for Reserve (8-3) were Alec Rhodes, Davis Johnson and Leo Holland.

WRA goaltender Christian Ciraco made 13 saves on 14 shots.

The Pioneers finished with 50 shots.

Reserve was scheduled to compete at the Mayfield Christmas Tournament, which is scheduled to conclude Dec. 22. Results were not available at press time.

WRA is set to return to North Park Rink to visit Elyria Catholic Jan. 8 at 7 p.m.

Reserve girls hoops team falls at home

The host Western Reserve Academy girls basketball team lost a 33-21 decision to Hartville Lake Center Christian Dec. 17.

Emma Presley led the Lady Pioneers (1-5) with nine points. Reserve was scheduled to entertain Newbury Dec. 20. Results were not available at press time.

WRA is set to visit Shaker Heightts Laurel Jan. 9 at 6:30 p.m.

Wright to play soccer at Pittsburgh

Hudson sophomore forward Alex Wright recently made a verbal commitment to continue her academic and soccer careers at the University of Pittsburgh.

Wright has 19 goals and 10 assists during her first two years as a member of the Hudson girls varsity soccer team.

The Harlem Globetrotters are offering the 2014 "Fans Rule" World Tour is set to come to The Ohio State University's Schottenstein Center Dec. 26 in Columbus at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Bohrer honored

Hudson graduate Nicki Bohrer, a senior on the John Carroll University (University Heights) women's soccer team, recently was named to the All-Ohio Athletic Conference second team.

Bohrer started 21 games and scored six goals in 2013.

Haines named All-OAC

Hudson graduate Kolbie Haines, a sophomore on the University of Mount Union (Alliance) women's soccer team, recently earned honorable mention to the All-Ohio Athletic Conference team.
